About Dr. Rachel Creamer

Evidence-Based Care. Meaningful Connection. Lasting Change.

I'm Dr. Rachel Creamer, a Florida-licensed clinical psychologist with 10 years of experience working with couples and helping individuals navigate relationship challenges.

I graduated from the University of Central Florida and have dedicated much of my clinical work to understanding the ways relationships shape our emotional well-being, sense of connection, and quality of life.

I believe that relationships are central to our lives, and when they become a source of distress, the impact can extend far beyond the relationship itself. Whether couples are navigating recurring conflict, rebuilding trust, or simply feeling disconnected, my goal is to help them better understand one another, develop healthier patterns of interaction, and create meaningful, lasting change.

My Approach to Couples Therapy

Grounded in Research. Tailored to Your Relationship.

My approach to couples therapy is rooted in evidence-based psychological treatments, with a particular emphasis on the Gottman Method.

I have completed Gottman Method training and several educational workshops through The Gottman Institute. This approach draws on decades of research into relationship dynamics and provides a framework for helping couples strengthen their friendship, manage conflict more effectively, rebuild emotional connection, and create a shared sense of meaning.

Rather than focusing on who is right or wrong, I help couples identify the patterns of interaction that keep them feeling stuck. Often, the problem is not one partner or the other, but the cycle that develops between them.

By understanding these patterns, couples can begin to move away from blame and defensiveness and toward greater empathy, emotional safety, and collaboration.

While the Gottman Method serves as a primary framework for my work with couples, I also integrate principles and interventions from other evidence-based approaches, including:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): Helping partners better understand the emotions, attachment needs, and vulnerabilities that underlie their interactions, while fostering emotional responsiveness and connection.

  • Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT): Helping couples balance acceptance and change, develop a deeper understanding of their differences, and respond more effectively to recurring relationship challenges.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy (CBCT): Identifying and modifying unhelpful thoughts, behaviors, and communication patterns that contribute to relationship distress.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Helping individuals and couples respond more flexibly to difficult thoughts and emotions while making choices that reflect their values and relationship goals.

I believe that no two relationships are exactly alike. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I draw from these models to develop an individualized treatment plan that reflects each couple's unique strengths, challenges, and goals.

My Therapeutic Philosophy

A Collaborative Relationship Built on Trust and Emotional Safety

Although evidence-based treatment is central to my clinical practice, I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is equally important.

Meaningful therapeutic work requires an environment in which people feel heard, respected, understood, and emotionally safe enough to explore difficult experiences.

My therapeutic philosophy is both evidence-based and client-centered, grounded in unconditional positive regard, empathy, authenticity, and collaboration.

I strive to meet clients where they are, recognizing that each person enters therapy with their own experiences, perspectives, values, and readiness for change.

In couples therapy, this means creating space for both partners to feel understood without judgment or blame. My role is not to take sides or determine who is right, but to help each partner better understand themselves, one another, and the dynamics that shape their relationship.

I work to balance compassion with opportunities for growth, helping clients develop greater insight while also learning practical skills that support meaningful change outside the therapy room.

I believe that acceptance and change are not opposites. Often, meaningful growth begins when we feel sufficiently understood and accepted to approach ourselves and our relationships differently.

What You Can Expect When Working With Me

My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and active.

I believe therapy should be a place where clients feel supported while also gaining practical tools they can use in their everyday lives.

Depending on your goals, our work may focus on:

  • Understanding and changing recurring patterns of conflict.

  • Strengthening communication and emotional connection.

  • Developing greater empathy and understanding between partners.

  • Rebuilding trust and navigating relationship injuries.

  • Increasing emotional awareness and regulation.

  • Balancing individual needs with the needs of the relationship.

  • Developing healthier ways of responding to difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences.

  • Creating meaningful, sustainable changes that align with your values and goals.

My hope is that clients leave therapy not only with a better understanding of their difficulties, but also with greater confidence in their ability to navigate future challenges.
